Broadcast Networking

Networking is the process of building strong mutually-beneficial relationships. In order to do that, we need to meet people. There are some interesting ways to do that, which I call “broadcast networking”- telling as many people as you can about you in a non-threatening, professional way. Here are some ideas:

1. Use community bulletin boards at local stores. These can be used to post your business card, lead requests , requests for help, for sale items, help wanted..all sorts of things that get your name out to the public.

2. Join organizations- and not just business ones. You can meet a lot of people through civic groups, religious groups, social groups, Fraternities, and other none business groups. Remember with these groups, you need to give first, before you can take.

3. Use the media- Press releases and news stories are great exposure. And don’t forget the non-business releases and stories you could post. These also serve to get your name out there.

4. Family and friends - These people can be great help by asking “who do you know” questions… Who do you know that lives in this neighborhood? Who do you know that’s a printer? Who do you know that’s looking for a babysitter? Who do you know?

Broadcasting your wants and needs is called “all out massive action”. Through this action you can narrow down the field of persons you wish to build stronger relationships with.

Develop A *Networking Neighborhood* booklet

Include within your networking circle a *Welcome to Our Networking neighborhood* booklet, which you can distribute to all your new clients. The booklet should contain the names, contact information, and business descriptions of your networking friends. Display Business cards in a holder or photocopy them into the booklet.

This booklet is telling your clients that the companies and services listed within, are Companies you know and trust, therefore you are recommending great services and products. If your client needs a plumber or a hairstylist, etc., they will often use these booklets First, because YOU recommended these companies. A referral carries much greater weight then any phone book listing.

I have found this booklet to be VERY effective for group networking and for growing your business. My Chapter members use these and I have personally seen clients and potential clients keep these booklets for YEARS, continually bringing business to those listed within the booklet.

WINNING WITHOUT INTIMIDATION

WINNING WITHOUT INTIMIDATION
Contributed by Bob Burg

What if you could get what you want… when you want it… and from whom you want it… including the difficult people you come across every day?

This series is dedicated to the cause of empowering you to do just that. And the good news is that for you to “win”, others do not have to “lose!” Everyone can come out ahead in, and feel good about, practically every interpersonal situation imaginable. You can attain personal, emotional victory, while making or keeping a friend.

Some of the most successful men and women in modern history –Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt, Benjamin Franklin, Mother Teresa, President Abraham Lincoln — shared a common characteristic: the ability to gently win people over to their way of thinking via the principles of positive persuasion. In other words, Winning Without Intimidation.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, to “win” means to succeed or prevail in a contest or effort; to triumph; to be victorious. To “persuade” is to cause someone to do something, especially by reasoning, urging, or inducement. When we persuade effectively, it results in others taking action. When we persuade positively, it results in others taking positive action. Persuasion does not mean manipulation!

Dr. Paul W. Swets, in his book The Art of Talking So That People Will Listen, says, “Manipulation aims at control, not cooperation. It results in a win/lose situation. It does not consider the good of the other party . . . In contrast to the manipulator, the persuader seeks to enhance the self-esteem of the other party. The result is that people respond better because they are treated as responsible, self directing individuals.”

Am I actually telling you that anyone can learn to be a winning communicator concerning friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and just about anyone else? Yes, I am.

I know, that sounds like a bit of a stretch… it really isn’t. Positive persuasion skills are not something most of us are born with. Like driving a car or any other talent, not only can you learn how to do it — you can learn how to master it!

We read that success, or winning, in most areas of life is 10 percent technical skills and 90 percent people skills. I believe it! You can learn those people skills necessary to ensure that you have all the advantages needed to put that 90 percent to work for you. And not just for you, but for others, too, day in and day out.

You see, on a day-to-day basis, winners are those people who can get what they want from others in such a way that’s of genuine and lasting benefit to everyone involved — whether it’s better seats at the theater or ball game, more cooperation at work or home, even the realization of your life-long dream!

There’s absolutely no reason to live as a person who’s constantly picked on, emotionally put down, taken advantage of, or made to settle for less in any way. And there’s certainly no reason to ever resort to bullying or manipulating people to get what you really want.

Let’s create a world together where everybody wins without intimidation!
